This submission is the Introduction Chapter to the forthcoming book "Everyday Ambassador," a work of creative non-fiction, following a young woman's journey to serve others in an increasingly technologized world. Over one decade and across a dozen countries, she encounters a series of remarkable public servants who push her to question her most basic concepts of good citizenship: Why does so much good intention never materialize into results? Why, in the most connected era in human history, do we still struggle to articulate our own needs and to responsibly address others'? Her adventures suggest that today's globalized generation, and anyone having undergone our digital-culture conditioning, has started out a few steps behind.
