Some of you have noticed that with our site relaunch we’ve added an area called “Opportunities.”  Opportunities are an area where we will work with companies (small, medium and mega) to find artists and creators who can help them on a project basis.

To learn about opportunities there are a few things you should do:  (1)  be a Tenlegs member and always check the Opportunities section (2)  watch out for announcements about new opportunities through Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn profiles (3) have a portfolio available on Tenlegs so companies can easily see your stellar work!

One of our latest projects involved an animation project for a startup call CourseHorse.  For our profile this week we spoke with Ryan Wehner, Creative Director for a group called Digital Twigs, which is working on the project.

Tenlegs:  Tell us a bit about yourself as an artist.

Ryan Wehner:  I’m one of those people that can honestly say this is all I’ve ever done. I remember making flip books in grade school… do people say grade school? It sounds so nostalgic… Then started making films in middle school with friends. The love of making things has only amplified with time.

I’m interested in telling stories that speak a truth of myself or of how I perceive society to be. Lately the bulk of my work has been motion design, which I love and enjoy doing. But I consider myself to come from a live-action background, and I’m looking forward to getting back into that space this year.

You work under the company Digital Twigs -how did that company come together?  Does the name mean anything special?

I guess you can say Digital Twigs has been a work in progress for a decade. Most of the artists at Digital Twigs specialize in different things. There’s animators, writers, photographers, illustrators, and musicians. We’re all friends and like-minded folk set on making awesome stuff.

I think of DT as a tree, with each of us as the twigs that make it up.  I also like the concept of technology & nature merging together. Digital Twigs.

Or it just sounds cool. Who knows!
You are currently working on an opportunity through Tenlegs.  Can you tell us about how this process came to you and how it is coming together?

Yep, we’re making a short animated video for CourseHorse.com. We originally found the job through your Tenlegs twitter. Which was an unexpected treat.

It’s been a pretty smooth process so far, and we really like working with everyone at CH. It should be a fun little piece for them… I’m happy we had the opportunity to put it together.

Any advice for artists who are looking to find contract work out there?

Get your portfolio together or cut a reel! Now! Make yourself look awesome. Then start applying for work… Everywhere! Contrary to popular belief, there IS a lot of it out there, you just have to be looking in the right places. Then just focus on doing your thing… making sweet sh*t!
